Harrison County History of Coal Museum
A non-profit education museum dedicated to the preservation of Harrison County's rich mining heritage. View the fascinating history of mining, from picks and shovels to giant machines that move and burrow the earth. The Coal Museum offers a comprehensive look at both early day and modern mining in Southeastern Ohio.
Accompanied by one of our experienced guides, visitors to the museum can view exhibits detailing the formation of coal, early mining tools, items from the company store, heavy machinery, a working scale model of a dragline and a wealth of historic photographs. Relax and enjoy a video presentation on mining "the black diamond." Films depicting underground, surface, and longwall mining techniques can be viewed.
