Historic Walking Tour
Caldwell, the Border Queen, has seen wild days as a cowtown beside the Chisholm trail, a brief period of booming times during the Oklahoma Land Rush days, and quiet prosperity based on the vast grain fields of Sumner County.
Nineteen historical markers are located in the downtown Cowtown District of Caldwell. True stories of the “Old West” accompany each marker and provide an unusually complete view of the town’s past, such as, The Talbot Gang Shootout, Shooting up Main Street, Murder of Marshal George Flatt, The Red Light Saloon, and The Last Chance Saloon.
Stop by the visitors plaza at Main & 1st for a free map and tour guide with the marker locations listed.
