Hot Springs
Leave I-17 at exit 285 (General Crook Trail), turn east. Go 3 miles to fork and turn right on East highway 260. Proceed about 8 miles. Look on the right for a sign that says “FOSSIL CREEK & VERDE RIVER”. Turn right. You are now on Forest Service Road 708. Follow this dirt road about 19 miles to the intersection with Forest Service Road 502. Turn right on 502 and go about 5 miles. Bear to the left past Childs Power Plant to park.
Take trail upriver past the power plant to a dirt road and follow it to a river crossing marked with stones. Cross the river and go back downstream about a quarter-mile. Total hike is about 1 mile, including the river crossing. Springs feed two pools in a structure tat reportedly was part of a resort that burned down in the thirties and was a hideout of Al Capone. Natural mineral water is 98º to 104º.
