Kansas Sports Hall of Fame

The KSHOF formerly housed in Abilene, Kansas is now located in Wichita, Kansas. The tour begins with a dynamic 3-screen video highlighting many Kansas heroes and greatest moments. Next is the basketball gallery where visitors come face-to-face with some of the most legendary figures in the sport.

A maze of beautifully displayed photos and artifacts leads visitors through galleries devoted to the state’s colorful history of football, baseball, and track. Interactive displays allow guests to watch video, test sports knowledge and research favorite athletes and teams.

The majestic Hall of Fame gallery presents the immortal role of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame inductees with a portrait and short biography.

The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the history of sports for the state to serve as a source of education and inspiration to all generations. The mission is achieved through providing exhibits, archives, facilities, services and activities to honor those individuals and teams whose achievements in sports, have brought distinction to themselves, to their communities and to the entire state of Kansas.

The Hall of Fame was founded in 1961 as a part of the Kansas Centennial Celebration. Presently, 141 of Kansas’ most celebrated sports heroes have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The criteria for induction into the Hall of Fame is that the individuals have brought pride to the state of Kansas through their involvement in sports.

Any Kansan can nominate individuals for consideration for induction. A committee of over 50 Kansans also provide nominations and vote in the screening process. Final selection for induction is made by the vote of the Board of Trustees from the finalists presented from the Nominating Committee. Inductions are held every summer.
