Maxwell Wildlife Refuge
No other place in Kansas can buffalo and elk be viewed as they can at the 2800-acre Maxwell Wildlife Refuge. Voted as one of 8 geographic wonders of Kansas by the Kansas Sampler Foundation. it has the largest buffalo herd in the state as well as an elk herd. Guided excursions through spacious prairie are your best chance to see bison, elk, coyote, bobcat, wildflowers, birdlife as well as other prairie dwellers. The area also offers great camping and fishing with both hiking and biking paths.
