McPherson County Old Mill Museum

The Museum complex includes the restored 1898 Smoky Valley Roller Flour Mill, listed on the National Historic Register, where you can learn the workings of a grist mill from the first steps of conveying the wheat grains into the mill, through several levels of sifting, until the finished product is bagged. A self guided, push-button audio tour on each floor instructs you to follow the process through four stories of the mill. The museum building adjacent to the mill houses exhibits of central Kansas history, genealogy research, and a gift shop. Outside the mill is a beautiful picnic area and campground. The Mill becomes operable during the annual Millfest celebration, held the first weekend of May. The adjoining Heritage Sqaure also comes to life during the same weekend with period costumes, crafters and great food being the draw for the day. Also the site of Swedish dancing and Maypole celebrations.
