North Platte Area Children’s Museum
The North Platte Area Children’s Museum is a place for children and parents to enjoy a hands-on experience in learning. The Museum offers visitors a place to experience the wonder of science, technology, culture and the arts in a unique and interactive atmosphere.
Located in the historic Carnegie Library building, the Museum provides many exhibits for children and their parents to interact with.
Those exhibits include:
Experience Agriculture – Become a veterinarian and learn how agriculture affects all of our lives
Commerce Room – Experience the world of business. Withdraw money at the bank. Shop or play cashier in a real mini-grocery store. Become a cook or waitress at the Delicious Deli. Sort and deliver mail at the Post Office.
Laser Light Room – Create a laser show in this unique room.
Media Center – Become a news anchor or weather person on KIDS-TV. Make a commercial and play music in the D.J. Booth. Create your own newspaper or book at the Editor’s Desk. This exhibit promotes speaking and writing skills.
Science Discovery – Children will experience science and technology. The scientific process is promoted, including: observing, classifying, inferring, communicating, measuring, predicting, and experimenting. Try powering lights of the city using your own leg power.
Reading Castle – Relax and enjoy a book in your own reading nook.
Kid’s Corral – Visit this special area especially designed for children under 18 months old. This exhibits allows children to develop large and small motor skills.
Bubble Experience – Explore scientific concepts of air and space. Children can become encased in their own giant bubble. This exhibit allows for creative play and imagination.
Puppet Theatre – Direct your own puppet show. Dress up to be anyone you want to be.
Medical Center – Check x-rays and put on a surgical jacket to tend to patients. Learn about the parts of the body and how they work.
Nebraska History – Explore Nebraska history in a real log cabin – complete with dress-up pioneer clothes
Construction House – Get building! Create a skyline or use a variety of blocks to design and build your own creation.
Music Exploration – Create sound, rhythm, beat and pitch with a variety of musical instruments. Become a member of the band, the maestro or just dance to the music.
Transportation Area – Build a car at the Automobile Assembly Line. Become a firefighter, police officer or construction worker using driver simulators. Watch for the railroad crossing and become the engineer at the wooden train center.
