The island is approximately 15 miles long with the Pamlico Sound to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. A short distance offshore from Ocracoke in the Pamlico Sound is a natural reef which protects the shallow waters along the shoreline, a perfect place to explore by kayak. These shallow waters and marshes are filled with wildlife; shorebirds, migratory birds, fish, crustacea, plants and sometimes sea otters and sea turtles. Sunrise, sunset, full moon, bird watching and custom tours are available. No experience needed.
