The Shay Locomotive Display

A restored narrow-gauge geared locomotive, known as the Shay Locomotive, was built in 1925 by the Lima Locomotive Works and is located at the Allen County Museum Complex.

For a period of almost 70 years, the Lima Locomotive Works built 2,761 Shay locomotives, the last in 1945. These were among the best crafted steam engines in the nation. The Lima Locomotive Works exported worldwide and carried the name of the Lima community as far away as China.
