Vinton Railroad Depot

The “county seat” style brick and limestone depot was built in 1900 by the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad.Later it became a part of the Rock Island system.Placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and designated heritage site for Silos & Smokestacks.The interior retains the original locally made pressed tin ceiling, terrazzo tiles and white oak wainscoting. There are many displays of RR memorabilia including time tables, menus,union papers,fare tables,pictures,lunch pails and lanterns. Two model trains also run. Open Thursday evenings 5-7 pm June through September during Farmers Market. Open other times by appointment only.
