Childress

The seat of Childress County is named for George Campbell Childress, author of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Childress has a blend of agribusiness and light industry and is an agricultural center for cotton, grains and cattle. It is home to several historic ranches, and its downtown features many restored buildings with many antique shops.
