Colorado City

In 1877, a Texas Ranger camp on the present townsite was first known as the Anglo-American settlement. Colorado City became a boisterous frontier supply point and recreation center, and the seat of Mitchell County.

Today, Colorado City is the center of a rich agricultural region that includes extensive industry related to petroleum.

During designated seasons, hunters seek pronghorn antelope, deer, jave lina, wild turkey, upland game birds and migratory waterfowl.

Antique and craft malls and other shops offer excellent downtown shopping. Colorado City Playhouse is community theater.

The Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Railhead Trade Days on the first weekend of March and June, and the second weekend in November. The city also hosts its bluegrass festival, Mitchell County Old Timers Festival and CowboyBreakfast the last weekend of September.
