Mertzon

Mertzon was established in 1910 as a stop on the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railroad, and is named for a director of the line. Mertzon is the seat of Irion County, a rolling to hilly area devoted primarily to ranching. The county is one of Texas’ leading sheep producing areas.
