Slaton
Slaton was established in 1910 as a suitable place for a division terminal for the Santa Fe Railroad. The city was named for O.L. Slaton, who is said to have been instrumental in the completion of the railroad project. Today Slaton serves as a rail center, plus a regional agricultural and trade center.
Slaton lies on U.S. 84, a segment of the Ports to Plains Highway connecting the state’s heartland to coastal ports.
