American Indian Day and Powwow
A one-of-a-kind and inexpensive family and cultural experience is awaiting for you at St. Joseph’s Indian School’s annual powwow and cultural events. Two days filled with cultural art demonstrations, performances, craft projects and dances take place in Chamberlain, SD. Friday’s activities include art demonstrations and performances at Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center. On Saturday take in campus tours or browse the museum’s beautiful displays and gift shop. The main event, the all-youth powwow, begins at noon. Children of all ages compete throughout the day. There will be a special opportunity for audience participation during the inter-tribal dance. After a full day of powwow dancing, enjoy a complimentary meal of traditional buffalo stew, wojapi, and fry bread. All ages are welcome to attend. Cameras are welcome. Average Attendance: 1,150
