Annual Woolly Worm Woad Wace

Sep
26

The Woolly Worm Woad Wace is a 10 mile footrace that takes place on the Saturday morning of the Woolly Worm Festival (always the third weekend in October). The beautiful mountain course takes runners through through Newland, NC (the highest county seat in the eastern U.S.) and across Hickory Nut Gap at the peak of the autumn foliage season in Banner Elk. Traveling across both paved and graveled roads, the route includes a short mountain trail. Prizes are awarded for divisions and t-shirts to each runner.

From the intersection of NC 194 and NC 181 in Newland, travel 1.5 miles south on NC 181 (toward Linville) and turn right on High School Road. Avery County High School will be 1/2 mile on the right.
