Carousel Rides, Blacksmithing Demonstration by Tim Green & Maine Old Cemetery Association (MOCA) Fall Meeting

MOCA Meeting, 9am-3pm
Maine Old Cemetery Association holds its fall meeting in Newfield. MOCA members and non-members are invited to attend. This meeting is being sponsored by the Historical Society of Newfield and 19th Century Willowbrook Village.

The morning session will be held in the Historical Society building, with registration starting at 9am. Registration fee is $3.00 and will include coffee and a morning snack. A few displays will be set up. From 9:45-11:20, there will be a business meeting led by MOCA President Cheryl Patten with election of officers, and information about Newfield, Willowbrook and the activities scheduled for the afternoon.

Lunch will be served at the Willowbrook Sandwich Shop at 11:30 am. It will include soup, 1/2 sandwich or wrap (select from ham or chicken salad), chips, pickle, beverage and a sundae for the price of $8.75. There are covered picnic table outside for those who prefer to bring their own lunch.

The afternoon session, beginning about 12:30, will be held at Willowbrook in the area of the Country Store. Those attending will be divided into three rotating roups to experience a taste of Willowbrook: Video overview and chat with Willowbrook Director Amelia Chamberlain, abbreviated tour of the William Durgin House, and abbreviated tour of the nearby Carriage House. Also scheduled will be a “tour” of the old Newfield Village Cemetery which has been much improved over the past few years as a project of the Historical Society of Newfield.

Carousel rides on Willowbrook’s 1894 Armitage Herschell “steam riding gallery” are being offered on Saturday, May 23, every 30 minutes beginning at 10:30 am and ending at 3:00 pm. Children 10 or older, or those that are tall enough to reach the stirrups may ride without an adult. One ride is included with museum admission; additional rides are $3.

The Village is open 10am to 5pm, 5 days each week, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, through Columbus Day. Admission is $9 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, $4 for students ages 6-18, and under 6 free.
