Celebrate Westerville Labor Day Weekend Celebration

Aug
30–31

Celebrate Westerville’s culminating event will take place during Labor Day Weekend, nearly 165 years to the day that Westerville was first incorporated back in September 1858. History will come alive throughout the Sunday events with live re-enactments of special moments in Westerville’s history. Participants will get to “live” Westerville’s history as never before, while at the same time viewing many buildings of yesteryear that continue to remain a vibrant part of Westerville today.

Walking and “trolley” tours will include stops at various Underground Railroad homes, Otterbein College, the historic Everal Barn and Homestead at Heritage Park, the Hanby House, a cemetery containing Westerville’s founding families, and the historic Uptown District, where plaque markers will be placed this day on some of the most recognized buildings as part of the festivities.

Entertainment and a community picnic will take place throughout the day at Alum Creek Park, Westerville’s first planned park back in 1934.  Located on Main Street just a few blocks west of Uptown, the park will play host to the picnic and accompanying music, drama and other engaging acts

Picnic goers will have the option of packing their own fare or purchasing food from any number of “Taste of Westerville” caterers that will participate in the event.  The Westerville Symphony Orchestra will play its own version of Picnic with the Pops in the early evening, followed by a recognition of Westerville legacy families, a peek back at the 1958 time capsule.
