This living history unit will commemorate the November 1777 evacuation of Mount Independence by the British Army & their German allies. Watch the bateaux withdrawal on August 12 at 9:00 a.m. then enjoy a guided hike showing the British & German encampment sites, family fun activities, and a lecture, “The Nature of War: Environment and History at Mount Independence” by Kathryn Morse, associate professor of history at Middlebury College who will discuss the interactions of human beings and their environment at Mount Independence, and how evidence of those interactions is visible on the landscape today.
