Cookin’ at the Bell House

Reenactors from The Richland County Museum transform Malabar Farm State Park's Bell House into a frontier cabin for two weekends in March, during Malabar's Maple Syrup Festival.  In costume, and using ingredients, techniques, equipment and receipes available at the time – 1808 – full meals are prepared at the open hearth of the fire place.  Discussions of pioneer life, education, social mores, medical care, and, of course, food are presented, frequently with enthusiastic participation of the visitors.  Visitors are invited to taste the dishes prepared, when available, and may stay as long as they like.
