Emails from the Past
Newfield Historical Society building, on the grounds of 19th Century Willowbrook Village
3 pm. “Emails from the Past,” a look at the first three decades of the 20th Century through historic postcards sent to Anna Moore while she lived in the William Durgin house. Postcards were a very popular form of communication between friends and family members, and remained popular into the 1920s as an informal system of communication, which we could compare to the emails of today. People sent postcards on a frequent basis, leaving out words, ignoring rules of grammar, and using many abbreviations, just as we do in emails today. Presented by Willowbrook’s 2008 intern, Angie Rankin, who created the program. A guided tour of Willowbrook’s Durgin house follows the program. Refreshments will be served in the Historical Society building.
