From Belly Dancers to Terrorists – Arabs in Hollywood

Arabs have long been depicted in narrow and restrictive ways in various media — from comic books and soap operas to cinema.
These images were frequently utilized to project Americans’ own fears and desires.
This presentation by Sanjukta Ghosh uses clips from films spanning eighty-three years to examine how Hollywood films — especially films targeted toward children — construct stereotypes of Arab peoples and landscapes.
