National Amateur Free-For-All and the National Open Shooting Dog Championship
The largest amateur dog trial in the nation is held each February in Union Springs at Sedgefield Plantation. Recreationally, Bullock County is widely recognized as the Bird Dog Field Trial Capital of the World. Each February, people come from near and far to participate in the largest and most prestigious amateur bird dog field trial held, the National Amateur Free-for-All at famous Sedgefields Plantation.
Field trials in the state of Alabama begin in October and continue to March. In Bullock County, they are held on some of the best plantations in the nation. Union Springs hosts the prestigious National Amateur Free-For-All and the National Open Shooting Dog Championship in February each year.
Field trials are a competition to display a bird dog’s ability to successfully point out the hiding places of quail. While riding on horseback, dog handlers, judges, officials, and a gallery of spectators follow the dogs that run along designated courses.
