New Year’s Shooters

At midnight on New Year’s Eve, descendants of the area’s oldest families gather at City Hall and Black’s Grill, recite a chant, then proceed to fire muzzel loaders(many dating back to the war between the states) to blast out greetings for the new year. After the opening ceremony, the shooters embark on a tour visiting over 50 or more homes throughout the night and day. Many hosts invite the group in for snacks, a cigar, or even a full meal with ginger tea.
