Oktoberfest
This year is the 200th anniversary of Oktoberfest in Munich. If you’re in the Tampa Bay area and can’t fly to Germany, then visit the German American Society of Pinellas County. The Society will present its 21st annual Bavarian festival, Tampa Bay’s most authentic Oktoberfest. Three weekends!
For three continuous weekends, on Fri and Sat nights, starting Friday at 5:00 pm, visitors to Oktoberfest will have a great time. Around Oktoberfest we call it “Gemuetlichkeit”. It has no direct English translation, but essentially means “coziness”.
Walk through the doors of the Oktoberfest Village and be transported to a world of family fun, good times and good cheer. A place where there are no strangers and authentic German food and German beer are served by friendly staff some wearing traditional German tracht (traditional garb). Link arms, schunkle (sway back and forth) and join your newly found Oktoberfest friends in the singing of Ein Prosit or hit the dance floor and polka the night away!
A colorful, festive Oktoberfest celebration featuring live bands and dance floor under the big tent with continuous Oompah music, a Kinder Corner (children’s fun area) , imported German Oktoberfest beer and German wines plus delicious German food from our kitchens.
The Official Opening of the Oktoberfest begins with fanfare, a parade starting at 6:30 pm and ceremonial Keg Taping by our honorary Burgermeister with the pronouncement “O’Zapft Is”, it is tapped.
No matter what kind of experience you, your friends and family are looking for; Oktoberfest offers something for everyone!
The dates are Sept. 24-25, Oct. 1-2, 8-9 from 5-10 pm. Discount coupons are available on the web at www.GermanPinellas.com. The festival operates using “Oktoberfest Festival Money”.
