Somerville Dog Festival
At this year’s event, dogs and their owners will gather a Trum Field in this Boston suburb and attempt to break the world record for the number of bandanna-wearing pups in one place. (The number to beat: 764, set earlier this year in Australia.) “Somerville as a whole is just really dog-friendly and supportive,” says Adam Parker, a local veterinarian who started the event six years ago. “I mean, the city actually has a liaison on staff for local dog owners, if that tells you anything.” Other festival s=attractions include a dog-owner look-alike contest, a come-when-called clinic, an agility competition and the “Doggiepiece Theater,” a troupe of local dog “actors” who reenact classic fairy tales.
