Lake Guide

Hugo Lake

Hugo Lake dam is located on the Kiamichi River 18 river miles upstream from its confluence with the Red River. Skiers and speedboat enthusiasts can enjoy some 8,000 acres of open water in the lake. Boating lanes have been provided in the uncleared upper half of the lake for easy access by fishermen.

Recreational facilities including boat launching ramps, group camping, picnic and camping areas, playgrounds, beaches, bicycle and hiking trails at public use areas around the lake. Group picnic shelters are available for reservation.

The narrow valley where Hugo Lake lies rises sharply to the hills on both sides. Open areas are small. The densely wooded area consists of silver maple, ash, hackberry, sycamore, winged elm, black willow, American elm, blue beech, water oak, hickory, box elder, basswood, and others. A variety of flowering shrubs, native grasses and wildflowers unfold a new panorama each season. There are over 100 species of birds which occur in the Kiamichi River Basin.
