Shadehill Reservoir

Shadehill Reservoir is one of western South Dakota’s few large lakes. The dam, built in 1951 by the Bureau of Reclamation, creates more than 5,000 surface acres of water creating fun for everyone. The blue water of the reservior lies immediately downstream from the confluence of the North Fork and the South Fork of the Grand River.

Facilities provided for outdoor recreation around the reservoir include picnic sites, campgrounds, swimming beaches, areas for seasonal use cabins, boating, hiking, and a marina. All recreational areas and facilities, including the fishery, are administered by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks. Available species include walleye, catfish, and bass.
